Homeownership Blows

I have commitment issues.  I get bored easily in general and I can't even begin to tell you how many different hobbies I have picked up & soon dropped in my lifetime.  The longest relationship I have willingly had is with my cat.  More recently (7 years to be exact), I have ventured into long-term human relationships, which has resulted in joint homeownership.

I know there are people out there who can rant & rave about the benefits of owning your own home, blah, blah about the future value of the place & the tax breaks, on & on.

Then there are those (like me) that also think about the pitfalls.  When you rent (yes, I know, some people view renting as throwing away money each month) whenever something breaks or needs repairs, guess what....all you do is pick up the phone & call the landlord.  And yea I know there are slum lords out there that never fix things or do things half ass, but in general, landlords actually do fix things without a hassle.

Well as a homeowner, YOU are the landlord so every single friggin' thing has to break and as the laws of nature would have it, when it rains it pours.  Termites, plumbing issues, electrical malfunctions, leaks, and everything in between seems to need fixing all at once.

But then it brings to mind the honesty of previous owners selling their home.  I mean the whole selling & buying process in & of itself is migraine inducing, but as a seller, wouldn't you think that they would think about the next home they are going to buy & would hope to God that the seller is honest about the true condition of that home?  And when they think of this, wouldn't the seller then be honest about their own home they're selling to the buyer?

Long story short, our purchase was riddled with faulty inspections out the whazzoo.  No wonder homeowner's insurance is so expensive since they're the ones having to pay for the mistakes of others who are perfectly content with doing half ass jobs to begin with.

Man.....homeownership certainly blows at times.
